On 24 March 2025, the Australian Privacy Commissioner approved a variation to the Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code 2024 (the CR Code).
This variation was initiated by the OAIC to amend the independent review provisions which requires the Commissioner to initiate an independent review of the CR Code every 4 years. Under the new CR Code, the Commissioner may defer an independent review of the CR Code by up to 2 years, provided that stakeholder consultation has taken place.
The new Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code 2025 commenced on 25 March 2025 and has been published on the OAIC’s Codes Register.
