Background
Under s 93A of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) the Australian Information Commissioner has power to issue written guidelines for the purposes of the FOI Act. Australian Government agencies and ministers are required to have regard to any guidelines issued by the Information Commissioner when performing a function or exercising a power under the FOI Act.
Purpose of consultation
The OAIC seeks comment from interested stakeholders on the content, guidance, readability and accessibility of the updated Part 9 of the FOI Guidelines.
The OAIC also proposes to develop agency resources to accompany the revised Part 9. We welcome your suggestions for additional resources that you think will assist in undertaking internal reviews.
